A chess coach that shows its work
ChessCopilot is a chess board that teaches while you play. Every move you make gets a plain-English review: what it cost and what would have been better. A coach helps you think positions through, and every claim it makes is checked on the board before you see it.

Most chess apps show you the engine's best move. That tells you what to play, not why, and not what went wrong in your own thinking. ChessCopilot is for players who want to understand their moves: beginners who keep losing pieces without seeing how, and club players who want to know which habits cost them games.
You don't need to know anything about chess engines. Everything is explained in words, on the board.

Choose the computer's strength, the side you play and a clock, or play both sides to follow a game from a book or over the board. As you play, each of your moves is graded and explained: the piece you left hanging, the capture you missed, the threat you walked into.
A game in progress is saved after every move. Close the app and it offers the game back when you return, with Resume or Resign.
Explore is a sandbox beside your game, where nothing counts. Try a move, take it back, ask for a hint: each hint is the next step of a ladder, from a nudge to the answer. The coach reads the position with you, pointing out what is attacked and what your opponent is planning.
You can ask it questions in your own words: "What is my opponent threatening?", "Why is this move bad?". Before you see an answer, every move, threat and material count in it is replayed on the board by the chess engine. If the coach can't back something up, it tells you so, instead of making it up.
Every finished game gets a review: accuracy for each side, a graph of how the game went, the key moments with the move that was better, and every move with its grade. Tap a moment to open it in Explore and see why.
Your thinking scores the habits behind your mistakes across games: board awareness, reading your opponent's plans, calculating far enough, spotting what is on offer. It waits until there are enough moves to say something true, rather than guessing from one game.
Insights shows your record, your accuracy game by game with the trend, blunders per hundred moves, and which phase of the game costs you most.
Your games are kept with your account, so they are there on your phone and your laptop. If the connection drops mid-game, your moves wait on the device and are saved as soon as it is back. You can export your whole history as a file, and import one.
On a phone, add it to your home screen and it opens like an app.
Your games and your questions are visible only to your account. There are no ads and no trackers. The site runs on a small private server, and accounts are created by invitation or sign-up.
ChessCopilot is free. The coach's written replies run on a free AI plan, so each person has a number of questions a day, and at busy times the free allowance can run out for a while. When that happens the coach says so in plain words, and you can come back later. The board, grades, hints, reviews and insights don't depend on it and always work.
